Body

Tool-based Data and Application Migration from Informix 4GL to JAVA on Linux

The Client

LGN - Lower-Saxonian Cadastral Administration Agency, Germany decided in 2005 to migrate its administration system (AGN) from a 4GL Informix application to Java using FreeSoft’s Informix migration technology with Siemens Business Services being the prime contractor and a strategic partner in migration services.

The Project

The primary objective of the project was to migrate the LGN application with all functionality from Informix 4GL to Java.

The Challenge was to provide a fast and cost-effective migration. This was achieved by using FreeSoft’s innovative toolset. This toolset allowed a low risk, fully system-based and automated transformation to a new target platform.

The modernization project has paved the way from a proprietary client/server architecture toward a n-tier architecture which is adaptable to future technologies.

This gave the LGN long-term protection of their investment in the functionality and business logic. With a system now based on the Oracle platform, which is readily adaptable with modern development tools to serve future market needs.

Throught the use of FreeSoft’s Migration Technology, it was possible to reduce the manual intervention to an absolute minimum, ensuring quality and consistency as well as optimum system performance.
