Applied Information Sciences, Inc.
AIS has helped our clients modernize their legacy systems for more than 20 years by surrounding them with one Microsoft innovation after another and eventually replacing the legacy systems all together. AIS began as a software engineering firm focused on building mainframe systems in the early 1980’s.
By the early 1990’s we had developed a mainframe interoperability product to enable us to build client/server systems. Our Interoperability product was based on a source code implementation of the Microsoft SQL Server Tabular Data Stream (TDS). We enjoyed source code compatibility for many years and supported the evolution of Microsoft API’s from ODBC to OLE-DB to ADO to ADO.NET. to MDAC including 64-bit driver support. This enabled AIS to constantly leverage the latest technology from Microsoft in modernizing legacy systems.
Our clients choose numerous modernization strategies based on their business organizational needs. The majority of our clients have chosen to totally replace their mainframes with lower cost and more agile Microsoft technologies. Our initial focus was Unisys mainframes but that quickly expanded to IBM mainframes and large SMP UNIX systems and x/OPEN DTP offerings which evolved to the more recent Open Source frameworks. All along the way, our focus was leading the adopting of Microsoft’s latest innovations for custom applications.
Today, AIS is assisting our clients to leverage SharePoint, CRM, Windows 7 Phone and Azure as yet another set of transformative innovations. A fair number of a clients still have mainframes and large scale SMP UNIX systems and we are working to help them dramatically reduce their hardware, software and labor costs by modernizing to commodity hardware and the Microsoft Application Platform.
